Function Specific Design™ is more than just a catchphrase. Your footwear needs as a cyclist are dependent upon the type of riding you do, the equipment you use, your gender, how hard you ride & the environment you ride in. At Lake®, we take all those factors into account before we start to design your shoes. Every component of our products, from laces to stitching to rubber compound, is rigorously tested in our factory test lab. Our products face conditions that are nearly impossible for the average cyclist to encounter: We freeze them, heat them, bend them & destroy them so that you get your money?s worth. Read on to see how Function Specific Design creates our products.
Lasts Function Specific Design™ starts with the actual foot form (Last) around which a shoe is built to determine the shoe's particular use. Instead of just trying to make one or two foot shapes fit every rider, we created 15 different lasts to meet the needs of just about everyone. Women's Lasts All of our women?s lasts are designed to meet the anatomical requirements of a woman's foot: reduced overall volume, narrower heel, & a higher instep than a typical men's last. Wide Lasts Several of our lasts are also designed in a US EE width.
